05 Jul Prosciutteria di Trevi – A lovely prosciutteria
On a little street, near Fontana di Trevi lies a small place that really deserves a visit if you are looking for something to eat.
I ate a couple of times in this place in the evening enjoying both cold starters and cooked meals.
The pork sandwich is awesome and the cold plate for two is ok (two people can eat from it so its size is good and considering its price it is a real bargain).
Cooked meals tend to be limited so if you arrive late and look on the board you might see many of them cut off the list.
The lasagna is very good but the vegetable soup is more like a stew (I enjoyed it but the dish is more stew than soup) so keep that in mind if you want to order it.
The place is very small(3,4 tables) and has a few extra “bar” places where you can enjoy your meals on high stools while the glasses of wine hang from the wall on special wooden clips.
The white wine of the house was very good and it goes perfectly with the cheeses mix or the cold plate starters.
The staff is very nice and it will help you with your orders or explain some things from the menu but this is not the kind of place where you will receive a table service. You pick your food, take the tray to an empty seat and enjoy it there. And at the end it would be nice to take your tray back to the counter where you will pay for your food.
Even though the place is very small there are plenty of meats and cheeses from which to choose from alongside vegetables and other dishes.
Given the fact that I turned 2 more times to eat I can recommend this place with an open heart.
One of the main advantages of this place besides the food and the staff is the fact that you don’t have to sell a kidney to enjoy a decent meal in here. Prices are very ok and they are totally worth it.
As with other restaurants/bars tried in Rome this was also a suggestion by a local so if ever in Rome you could spend some time here before or after admiring Fontana di Trevi at night.
